The Core Values of SJCC

As children of God we will live our faith through:

genuine hospitality, passionate worship,

intentional faith development, risk-taking mission and service,

and Spirit-led generosity.

Green Team/Outreach Helping Opportunity

In response to a recent request from Mike McDaniel, Conservation Officer for Joplin Parks and Recreation, SJCC Outreach and Green Team will be leading a team of SJCC volunteers in mulching Cunningham Park

on Saturday, November 7th at 9:00 am. Please sign up on the poster in Fellowship Hall; we'd like to have a team of 15-20 people, including adults, youth, and children to help with this service project!

  Joplin Racial Justice Coalition

After our first meeting on September 12th, we are excited about the development of the Coalition's mission and about leading more conversations in the community. We hope to be a forum for conversation and open dialogue as it relates to the issue of racial justice. The Coalition's primary objective is to bring people in the Joplin community together to fight racism and prejudice in our community and the world.

If you'd like to know more, please contact Pastor Kathryn, or Like us on Facebook at: joplinracialjusticecoalition

 Movies in the Park

Our last family movie night of the year will be on Friday, October 23rd.

Bring blankets, chairs, and your family and friends! We'll have hot dogs and drinks starting at 7:00 pm, with the movie beginning closer to dusk, as usual; we hope you can join us!

This month's movie is Adam Sandler's Bedtime Stories!

Ongoing Educational Opportunities
Our Adult Spiritual Formation classes are held Sunday mornings at 9:30am. Here's what's currently being offered:
  •  Grades 5-12 are beginning a new Sunday School class in the Youth Room on the 3rd floor with a study on Hospitality. Please encourage your youth to attend as we're excited about this new opportunity for our young members!

  • Pastor Kathryn will be leading an adult study centered around the book by Carol Dempsey, Justice: A Biblical Perspective. The study will emphasize how the Bible can provide a view of justice for all creation on earth -- both human and non-human. We'll explore how the ancient Israelite and Christian cultures and worldviews influenced the shaping of the Old and New Testaments, and how contemporary readers must apply biblical literature in relation to the contemporary global, religious, and social context in which the texts are now heard.

  •  The Fishers class meets each Sunday in room A-6 and is currently reflecting on the stories of Fred Craddock, well-known Disciples preacher and teacher. This class is open to all adults.

  • Kids age PreK - 4th grade meet in the Where It's At classroom on the 3rd floor for exploration, story time, and music.
Responding to Disaster

As storms happen in other parts of the country and world, we here in Joplin are very aware of how important the generous responses of other people and churches continue to be to our recovery. As we hear of other locations sustaining great damage from severe weather, we know that your responses will matter to them as well. We remind you of the important work that Week of Compassion does in disaster response. Why not take a minute now to make a donation to that important work? To do so, click here.

Come Be Part of the Dream!

At South Joplin Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) we have been dreaming with God about our future.  We have done ministry in Joplin for over 100 years and are planning for the century ahead.  As part of this process we have:

     *Set priorities for ministries

*Begun work to make improvements to our church building

*Increased our commitments as members of SJCC to financial support of the future

*Installed a projection system in the sanctuary to increase our options for worship and other ministries

*Created a plan for major improvements to our current facility and future building of new facilities

We invite you to be part of seeing this dream come true!

Journey with Us...

At South Joplin Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we recognize that we are on a lifelong journey and we invite you to journey with us. Together we seek to know God.  Together we do ministry as we seek to make a difference to people and the world around us.

On this journey, we do not come to know God in one moment. We do not become people of faith in a day.  Rather, we become and grow as people of faith over time, as we journey through life, as we follow the path of Jesus encountering people out in the real world.

If you would like companions on your journey, come join us as together we follow in Jesus' footsteps.
