Ministries for Youth and Children

Children and youth are important to us.  We recognize our need to nurture young people in faith,

to give them opportunities to develop a relationship with Jesus and to understand who they are

in light of God's presence and love in their lives.  One of our commitments is to 

continue to develop ministries for young people.

2013 Summer and VBS Edition 

This newsletter is for families and children through 5th grade.  It contains ideas

for family activities, puzzles and games, faith lessons and calendars of events

both here at South Joplin Christian Church and in the community. 

 Ongoing Ministries

Children Worship & Wonder is a worship opportunity for children from age 3 1/2 through 1st grade.  It is a Montessori based ministry which values children's ability to receive and respond to the Bible stories.  In addition to learning Bible stories, children learn about sacred space and the value of people's time with God.  Children Worship & Wonder takes place at 10:45 a.m. in a worship space just outside the main sanctuary.

Sunday School is offered each Sunday for children ages 3 and up.  Our children and youth begin together by hearing that day's story then spend the remainder of the time in self-directed learning stations.

Nursery is provided on Sunday mornings for children 3 and under and during other meetings and ministries. 

Upcoming Events and Ministries

Vacation Bible School - Terrific Tuesdays!

This year VBS will follow a different format.  We will meet one day a week for four weeks. 

Plan for your children (from 5 years old - those who have completed 5th grade) to spend their Tuesdays in July (beginning July 9 and going through July 30) with us.  Our days will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m.  Each week we will be filled with service, learning, and fun.  Lunch will be provided. 

The last Tuesday (July 30) will be a Day of Fun...location to be announced.  Children must participate in at least one other Tuesday to be able to participate on July 30.

Youth Group Meetings Underway...

During the school year, youth meetings are each Sunday evening from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.  During the summer youth meet once a month for special activities

Next Meeting: Sunday, June 23 - an afternoon of fun!  We will meet at church at 3:00 p.m. and return by 5:00 p.m.

Junior Youth Fellowship (JYF)

All children from kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to join us for monthly JYF events. 

Next meeting - Sunday, June 23 at 1:30 p.m.  Wear clothes that are appropriate for crafts and playing.
